Management

Good management is the key to running a successful hall. These pages of the site focus on some key issues for hall managers based around the three key themes of organisations, people and keeping legal.

It is important to remember that management is a task for everyone involved in a voluntary organisation and not simply down to one person’s job title. This is especially true for the hall management committee. If they do not have any staff they will have to undertake management tasks themselves. If they do employ a manager even when clear areas of responsibility have been established they will have to manage that person and his or her workload! In other words, this part of the site has something for everyone, from the convenor to the part-time volunteer.
Management Categories
Organisations
This section of the site provides information on how to manage a hall effectively so that it flourishes and grows. It covers strategic and business planning, communications, developing and improving the organisation and effective work with partners, as well as how to monitor, evaluate and review.
People
This section of the site provides information on how to manage the most important resources of all for a hall: its people. It covers paid staff, volunteers and service users and includes information on recruitment and employment, retention, employer responsibilities, conditions and benefits, procedures and policies, training and involvement.
Keeping Legal
The 'Keeping Legal' section of this website is intended to provide hall committees with a quick overview of the major areas and pieces of legislation that will (or may) affect them. It does not set out to be an authoritative statement of the law. The range and diversity of pertinent legislation means that different areas are dealt with in different ways and to a different degree of detail. The nature of legislation means that it is not possible to cover every enquiry through the provision of information on a website. If a voluntary organisation has specific legal queries it should seek professional advice.
